Tattoo Care Process

Tattoo Aftercare Guide

Congratulations on your new tattoo! Proper aftercare is crucial for ensuring your tattoo heals beautifully and maintains its vibrant colors. Follow the steps below to protect your investment and achieve the best results.

Initial Aftercare: Traditional Bandage

  1. Leave the Bandage On
Keep the bandage on your tattoo for 30 minutes to 2 hours after your session. This protects your fresh tattoo from bacteria and prevents bleeding.

  2. Remove the Bandage and Clean the Area
After removing the bandage, gently wash the tattooed area by hand using lukewarm water and unscented anti-bacterial soap. Avoid using a washcloth or sponge to prevent irritation.

  3. Let the Tattoo Air Dry
Allow the tattoo to air dry naturally. Do not use a towel or tissue, as these can harbor bacteria.

  4. Regular Cleaning
For the first two days, wash your tattoo 2-3 times a day with the same gentle technique. Be mindful of the clothing your tattoo comes into contact with; loose-fitting clothing is recommended to avoid irritation.

  5. Moisturizing After Two Days
Starting on day three, wash the tattoo once a day and apply a very thin layer of fragrance-free, sensitive-skin lotion several times a day. Remember, less is more—over-moisturizing can hinder the healing process.

  6. Do Not Pick at the Scabs
Continue this routine for two weeks, and avoid picking at any scabs that form. Picking can cause scarring and color loss.

Aftercare: Second-Skin Saniderm Bandages

  1. Leave the Bandage On
If you have a second-skin Saniderm bandage, leave it in place for 4-7 days. This breathable, waterproof barrier helps your tattoo heal without needing additional ointment or washing.

  2. Remove the Bandage Carefully
After 4-7 days, remove the bandage in the shower. Gently peel it back over itself, similar to removing a sticker, to avoid pulling on the skin.

  3. Clean and Moisturize
Once the bandage is off, gently wash the tattoo with anti-bacterial liquid soap. Keep the tattoo lightly moisturized with plain, unscented lotion a couple of times a day.

Important Reminders: What Not to Do

  • Avoid Submerging in Water
Do not submerge your tattoo in water—this includes baths, jacuzzis, oceans, or pools. Stick to regular showers to keep the area clean.

  • Protect from Sunlight
Do not expose your tattoo to prolonged direct sunlight, as UV rays can damage the healing skin and fade the ink.

  • Avoid Contact with Animal Hair
Keep your tattoo away from animal hair or fur to prevent infection.

  • Resist Scratching or Picking
Your tattoo may itch as it heals, but do not scratch or pick at it. Scratching can cause scarring and compromise the tattoo’s appearance.
